‘Many people now with mental illness are on the verge of committing suicide,’ said Alan Hartman, addressing a fifty strong protest outside the ATOS Medical Medical Assessment Centre in Manchester.
Alan chairs an independent support group of users and ex-users of psychiatric services in Manchester.
‘The latest statistics show that out of fifty cities, Manchester now has the highest rate of suicide. Every week at our centre someone comes in saying they have a letter from ATOS and they are going to end their lives.’
Mark Leopard, PCS delegate to the TUC Disabled Workers Conference sent a full message of support to the anti ATOS protest. Four PCS Union Reps attended the rally.
Tina Purcell helped organise the protest said, ‘we will continue to campaign against this private company that makes millions on the backs of some of the most vulnerable in society.’
